Lawrence W. Lay, D.O., Ph.D.

 

Education includes a BS Aerospace Engineering from University of Kansas, D.O. from University of Health Sciences, and a Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering from Wichita State University. He is currently doing graduate studies in Nuclear Engineering through Penn State. He has been involved in aviation and medical teaching for over 30 years. 

His past work experience includes Flight Test Engineer for Cessna and Beech, Engineering Test Pilot for Beech, 10 years as Emergency Room Physician, 27 years as a practicing family practice physician, aerospace medicine and addiction medicine. He is a senior Aviation Medical Examiner and does approximately 2000 examinations a year, Medical Review Officer and Substance Abuse Professional and medical sponsor for pilots with addictive disease.

His flight experience includes 8000 hours flying. He holds ATP license with multiengine land and rotorcraft-helicopter ratings and is Boeing 737 and DC-3 typed. He holds commercial privileges in airplane single engine land, sea and glider. He has been an active flight instructor for 42 years. His CFI ratings are in airplanes single and multi-engine land, rotorcraft-helicopter, glider and instrument airplanes and helicopters.  He holds an A&P license. He is currently a designated pilot examiner for airplanes and helicopters private through ATP and SES. 

Dr. Lay is currently working part time as an EMS pilot for AirMD (Lifeteam), flying a Bell 206L1 in Hutchinson Kansas.
